Worship Recap: Songs, Hymns and Spiritual Songs from April 7th, 2013

Welcome to the recap of the Veritas worship gathering on April 7th, 2013. Below are the songs and liturgy from our gathering.

Song: “To God Be The Glory” by:  Fanny Jane Crosby

Reading: Call to Worship

We’re gathered here today to respond to God’s call to worship him and to be reminded of the great things that He has done. To remember and celebrate the gospel and the person of Jesus Christ, our savior, through whom God has revealed himself to us and his plan for our salvation! Join me in responding to this call from scripture by reading the underlined parts with me!

L: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all our iniquity, who heals all our diseases, who redeems our lives from the pit, who crowns us with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies us with good so that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
C: The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; Bless the Lord, O my soul!
– Adapted from Psalm 103

Song: “10,000 Reasons (Bless The Lord)” by: Jonas Myrin and Matt Redman

Song: “Praise To The Lord” by: Joachim Neander and Catherine Winkworth

Reading: Confession/Assurance

L: Most merciful God, our Savior, our redeemer, we confess before you our brokenness and sin. Even in our great need we have forgotten your provision. We have looked to other things to satisfy our hunger and thirst, we have doubted your power to protect us. Our ears have been deaf to your call; our hearts have been cold to your love.
C: Forgive our lack of faith; have mercy on our weakness. Restore in us trust and love that we may walk in your ways and delight in doing your will. May we seek refuge in the merciful arms of Jesus, our High Priest. Amen.

Song: “White As Snow” by: Jon Foreman [During this song we had a reading based on Ephesians 1:7]

L: In Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our sins, according to the riches of his grace!

Passing of the Peace:

The joy of our salvation is demonstrated in the fact that we have peace with GOD. We also have peace with each other because  our sins our forgiven, and we have been restored in Christ! Lets take a few moments right now to celebrate all of this as we greet each other and welcome each other in this peace!

Our Sermon this week was from Pastor Nick Nye from Romans 8:5-13

Listen to the sermon online here.

Communion:

Please read with me the underlined portion:

L: Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.
C: We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

L: With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.
C: We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: “Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go” by: Lyrics by George Matheson and Arr: Ascend the Hill

Song: “Love Shines” by: Matt Carter, Philip Edsel, and Aaron Ivey

Reading: Commitment

This is the assurance we have in the work of Christ! Lets read and celebrate this together as we prepare to go out and live  this gospel truth that we’ve been celebrating!

L: What do you believe about the work of God?
C: We believe that God, who is perfectly merciful and just, sent his Son to bear the punishment of our disobedience by his most bitter death.
L: And what do you believe about the work of Jesus Christ?
C: We believe that Jesus Christ presented himself in our name before his Father, to appease his wrath with full satisfaction by offering himself on the cross and pouring out his precious blood for the cleansing of our sins.
L: What comfort does this give you?
C: We find all rest and comforts in his wounds and have no need to seek or invent any other means to reconcile ourselves with God than this one and only sacrifice, once made, which renders believers perfect forever.
-Based on Belgic Confession, articles 20-21

Song: “Jesus Paid It All” by: John Thomas Grape, Elvina M. Hall, and Alex Nifong

Benediction:

Hear this benediction as we go:

Let it be of great comfort to you that the spirit of God dwells within you! Through Christ, God has brought life to your mortal bodies and redemption to your souls. Go, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit.

L: Peace be with you. C: And also with you.
