Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – May 12th, 2013

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and spiritual song of the Veritas worship gathering on May 12th, 2013.

Below are the songs and liturgy readings from our gathering. We pray that this would encourage you and point you to the gospel as we continue in worship as a scattered community on mission.

Song: “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” by Isaac Watts

Reading: Call to Worship

Scripture says this about the work of Jesus on our behalf:

L: This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance:
C: That Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
L: There is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
C: He was manifested in the flesh, born in a lowly stable, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, and taken up in glory.
L: He humbly gave Himself as a ransom for all, that we might have peace with God. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of salvation!
C: To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
—Based on 1 Timothy 1:15-17; 2:5-6; 3:16

The greatest blessing that God has given to us is his son, Jesus Christ! Lets praise God together as sing and worship him!

Song: “Doxology” by Louis Bourgeois and Thomas Ken

Reading: Confession

Even though we recognize that God is worthy of praise, at times, the circumstances of our lives seem to crush our joy and make us feel like we don’t have the words or energy to worship God. Our struggles often cause us to doubt His goodness. The Bible gives us words for those frustrating times. Listen to the Psalmist lament in times of trouble:

L: As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?
—Psalm 42:1-5

L: Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you—each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.
—Psalm 42:6,8

As we continue to sing out to our faithful God who hears our praise and our frustration, lets confess to him our frustration and doubt, our sin in unbelief and lets rejoice in his goodness, provision and love!

Song: “Satisfied in You” by Brian Eichelberger

Reading: Assurance

We are satisfied in Christ because our deepest needs have been meet through Christ’s work on our behalf on the cross. Lets read this together:

C: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
—1 John 1:8-9

Song: “Come Ye Sinners” by Joseph Hart and Jean Jacques Rousseau

Passing of the Peace:

Lets take just a few moments to demonstrate the peace we have through the Gospel as we greet each other!

Our Sermon this week was from Pastor Nick Nye from Romans 8: 28-30

Listen to the sermon online here.

Song: “When I Survey” by  Fred C. Mallory and Lowell Mason

Song: “Here Is Love” by William Edwards, Robert S. Lowry, and William Rees

Reading: Commitment

L: This is the good news that we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, and that He was raised to life on the third day,
C: We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He is our Lord and our God.
L: We rejoice that the Spirit of God is transforming our hearts and lives through the Gospel of Jesus, as He is waking and empowering us to see our place in this world.
C: Go forth in us, Spirit of God, that we may be the unified church; as we live out the Gospel in loving community, display the Gospel as active servants, understand the Gospel by being learners of God’s Word and proclaim the Gospel as we purposefully relate to others.

Song: “Hail The King” by Citizens- Mars Hill

::  At this point in our gathering we took a moment to recognize and pray for all of the mothers at Veritas and to show them how thankful we are for all that they do! ::

Benediction:

Hear this benediction as we go:
Go in peace knowing that the Father has forever known you and predestined to make you more like Christ and go in confidence knowing that the Father has called you to himself, has justified you, and has glorified you through his son Jesus Christ.

L: Peace be with you.
C: And also with you.
