Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – February 16th, 2014
This weeks text is Genesis 1:1-3. This is the first week of our new sermon series from the book of Genesis. We are going back to the beginning of the Bible and examining the never changing characteristics and nature of God.
C: Praise the Lord! Let all that I am praise the Lord. I will praise the Lord as long as I live. I will sing praises to my God with my dying breath.
L: Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. He made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. He keeps every promise forever.
C: The Lord will reign forever. He will be our God throughout all generations. Praise the Lord!
– Based on Psalm 146
Our call to worship this week focuses on the absolute might and power of God. This is not meant to cast upon us a crippling sense of fear but rather to instill in us an overwhelming awe, which draws us to no other response but worship. This is not something meant for sunday mornings alone but for all that we do throughout every day.
Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:
- “Mighty God” – a joyful song speaking on the great might of our God!
- “You Alone” – There is no one or thing like our God. This is a song celebrating the uniqueness of God and our absolute need for Jesus.
- “Sovereign God” – Our God is above and before all things. We praise Him for his sovereign nature, which brings us joy and comfort!
Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
See you Sunday!
