Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – March 16th, 2014

SERMON

The sermon this week will be taken from Genesis 2:4-17. This past week we looked at the biblical notion of rest and this week we will move in the other direction to speak of work. Our work can be holy and righteous or our work can be unhealthy or destructive. Join us as we consider what our “work” should look like in light of Jesus’ finished work on the cross.

LITURGY

L: You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He cancelled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
-Colossians 2:13-14

This is the assurance that we have in the gospel. The finished work of the cross, accomplished by and through Jesus, has made us alive and redeemed us from our sins. How often do we find ourselves begging to be reassured of God’s love for us? Here it is! Dwell on this and let it sink deeply into your soul and when we gather as one body on sunday we will proclaim this to be true with great boldness.

 MUSIC

Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:

  • “Entrance” – a new song that beautifully presents story of the Gospel- that we are broken and in desperate need of salvation!
  • “All For You” – another new song that declares that all we do should be done in service to God.
  • “Come to Me” – this song is a desperate call for Jesus to come and rescue his weary and burdened followers.

Here is a link to a Spotify playlist.

Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.

See you Sunday!
