Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and spiritual song of the Veritas worship gathering on August 31, 2014

CONVICTION OF | PASTOR NICK NYE

1 Thessalonians 1:4-5

Our invitation to you this morning is for you to join in remembering who God is and what He has done for us and in this, our prayer is that we would be reshaped and our hearts re-aimed back to the author and founder of our faith – Jesus Christ our Savior!!

Song: “All Creatures Of Our God And King”

Church, may we see the holiness of God as sing this together!!

:::ADORATION:::

It is true that the holiness of God is perfect and that light of Christ chases away the darkness, and yet there still remains pain and brokenness all around us.  As we long for Christ’s return to set things right, we are called to pray.

L: The love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us;

C: We dwell in him and he in us.

L: The glory of God has been revealed to us. Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his name.

C: Make known his wonderful deeds among the peoples.

L: Sing to him, sing praises to him! Sing and rejoice in His grace!

C: We will joyfully declare His marvelous works.

L: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty

C: Who was and is and is to come!

—based on Psalm 105:1-2; Romans 5:5; Revelation 4:8

Song: “Holy, Holy, Holy”

:::CONFESSION/ASSURANCE:::

L: Lord God, We long for the coming of your kingdom in Jesus Christ, our Lord. The signs that your kingdom has not fully come sadden us.

We grieve over the violence and death in Ferguson Missouri.

We mourn over those in Iraq who are being persecuted and fleeing for their lives.

C: Lord Jesus, we long for the day when suffering and hate will end. We long for your return when you will lift up the brokenhearted and restore peace, when death and evil will be fully defeated. We confess our the sin and the evil in our own hearts. We cling to the cross of Jesus for forgiveness and rejoice in your grace. We pray all this in the strong name of Jesus. Amen.

Song: “Death Has Lost Its Sting”

Song: “Our Treasure”

:::PASSING OF THE PEACE:::

:::PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD:::

Our Sermon this week was from Pastor Nick Nye on  1 Thessalonians 1:4-5

Discussion Questions

:::COMMUNION:::

L: Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

C: We rejoice that You have died, have risen, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

L: With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

C: We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: “O My Soul Arise”

Song: “You Alone Can Rescue”

:::COMMITMENT:::

L: But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, he made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved – and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

C: For by grace we have been saved through faith. And this is not our own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of our works, so that we may not boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

—based on Ephesians 2:4-10

Knowing that we are his workmanship, his creation, created for his purposes, we go forth with boldness, confident in the gospel, confident in what God is going to do in and through us for his glory, for his kingdom.  This confidence comes from Jesus Christ, our firm foundation, our solid rock!

Song: “The Solid Rock”

:::BENEDICTION:::

May the God, who loved you enough to send His Son into this world, grant you peace as you await His return and prepare for an eternity proclaiming His praise. Go now in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.
