Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – July 5th, 2015

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and readings of the Veritas worship gathering on July 5th, 2015

This week we finished our series on Practical Theology by talking about the church. Wes Thompson preached a sermon entitled “The Beautiful Mess of Jesus’ Earthly Church”, coming from Ephesians 1:15-23. So, as we contemplate revelation that comes from God, and his desire for us to know Him through it, let us open our ears and our hearts to hear from God through His Word and rejoice in Him! We will start the gathering by singing a song called “Rejoice”.
Song: “Rejoice”

:::ADORATION:::

L: Our hearts are ready, O Lord, to respond to Your glory!

C: We will sing and make melody! We will awaken the dawn!

L: We will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples, we will sing praises to You among the nations.

C: For Your steadfast love is great above the heavens, and Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

based on Psalm 108:1-4, The Worship Sourcebook

Song: “Amazing Grace (God of Grace)”

:::CONFESSION/ASSURANCE:::

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

(1 John 1:8-9 ESV)

Song: “The Word”

:::PASSING OF THE PEACE:::

:::PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD:::

Our Sermon was preached by Wes Thompson, entitled “The Beautiful Mess of Jesus’ Earthly Church”, from Ephesians 1:15-23.

:::COMMUNION:::

L: Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

C: We rejoice that You have died, have risen, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

L: With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

C: We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

:::COMMITMENT:::

C: We give You thanks, great God, for the hope we have in Jesus, who died but is risen and rules over all. We praise You for His presence with us. Because He lives, we look forward to eternal life, knowing that nothing past, present, or yet to come can separate us from Your great love made known in Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

—A prayer from the Common Book of Worship

Song: “There is a Fountain”

:::BENEDICTION:::

May the love of God the Father, the faithful creator, and the peace of Christ, the wounded healer, and the joy of the challenging Spirit, together as the hope of the Three in One, surround and encourage you as you go from here. Peace be with you.
