Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday, July 19th, 2015
This week we are continuing through the book of Acts, the early history of the church. Brad Snyder will be preaching a sermon called “The UnStoppable Gospel” based on Acts 11:19 – 12. As we work through this picture of the Gospel in the early church, let us remember the meaning behind the authors words and led the Holy Spirit guide us in correct understanding.
L: But this precious treasure—this light and power that now shine within us—is held in a perishable container, that is, in our weak bodies. Everyone can see that the glorious power within must be from God and is not our own. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but not crushed and broken. We are perplexed because we don’t know why things happen as they do, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going.
C: These bodies of ours are constantly facing death just as Jesus did; so it is clear to all that it is only the living Christ within who keeps us safe.
2 Corinthians 4:7-9 TLB
Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:
- “Bless The Lord (Son of Man)” – a song of thanksgiving for Christ’s saving work in our lives.
- “In Tenderness” – A sweet expression of thanks and appreciation for God’s grace and love for us, that He rescued us from our sin.
- “Absent from Flesh” – A song of expectation, looking forward to the day when we are reunited with God in eternity.
Here is a link to a Spotify playlist. This playlist is comprised of songs being played at all four congregations this weekend, so you may not hear them all at your congregation. Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
