Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap, Sunday August 2, 2015

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and readings of the Veritas worship gathering on August 2nd, 2015

This week we continued through the book of Acts with a sermon entitled “Turning the World Upside Down” from Acts 16 – 17:9 preached by Brad Snyder. So, as we explore God’s action in and through the church, let us open our ears and our hearts to hear from God through His Word and rejoice in Him! We will start the gathering by singing a song called “How Great Thou Art”.
Song: “How Great Thou Art”

L: Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; His greatness no one can fathom. One generation commends Your works to another; they tell of Your mighty acts and of Your faithfulness.

C: We speak of the glorious splendor of Your majesty—and we will meditate on Your wonderful works. We tell of the power of Your awesome works—and we will proclaim Your great deeds. We will join with all generations as we celebrate Your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
—Adapted from Psalm 145:3-7

Song: “Come Thou Fount”

L: Almighty God, You have called us to be the church, to continue the mission of Jesus Christ to our lost and confused world.
Yet we acknowledge we are more apathetic than active, isolated than involved, callous than compassionate, obstinate than obedient, legalistic than loving. Gracious God, through the work of Christ, have mercy upon us and forgive our sins. Remove the obstacles which prevent us from loving our neighbors.

C: By Your Holy Spirit, continue to make us more like Your Son, shaping our hearts to display your love and grace into the darkness around us. This we pray in Jesus’ powerful name. Amen.

Song: “Shine Into Our Night”

Our sermon was preached by Brad Snyder, entitled “Turning the World Upside Down”, from Acts 16 – 17:9.

Song: “Rock of Ages”

Song: “Oh Fount of Love”

L: Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

C: We rejoice that You have died, have risen, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

L: With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

C: We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

L: God and Father of Jesus, You have sent Your Son to be our Savior: our light in the midst of darkness, our hope in the face of threats, our peace amid turmoil.
C: In Your Word we have seen Him and know that Your promises are true. Send us forth from this gathering with a renewed awakening to the Glory of Christ and cause us to worship Him with all that we do, that we may live for Your glory. This we ask in the name of Jesus, the Lord. Amen.

Song: “Be Thou My Vision”

As you go, trust not in your own wisdom or abilities, but heed the call of scripture to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, having faith that all things needed will be provided for you as you live for the glory of God. Peace be with you
