Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday August 16th, 2015
This week we are continuing through the book of Acts, the early history of the church. Nick Nye will be preaching a sermon called “Tearing Down Idols in Ephesus” based on Acts 19:21-41. As we learn through this story of Paul’s work, let us remember the meaning behind the authors words and led the Holy Spirit guide us in correct understanding.
L: But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
C: For by grace we have been saved through faith. And this is not our own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of our works, so that we may not boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
—based on Ephesians 2:4-10
Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:
- “If Not For Your Grace” – A new song at Veritas, a joyful song that reminds us how lost we were without Christ, but how blessed we are to have been saved by His grace.
- “When I Survey” – A song that is is both sobering and celebratory; we are reminded of the immense sacrifice of our Savior, as well as the amazing gift of His love.
- “The Solid Rock” – Another hymn, which cements us in the foundation of Christ when the rest of the world around us seems so unstable.
Here is a link to a Spotify playlist. This playlist is comprised of songs being played at all four congregations this weekend, so you may not hear them all at your congregation. Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
