Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – Sunday August 23, 2015

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and readings of the Veritas worship gathering on August 23rd, 2015

This week we continued through the book of Acts with a sermon entitled “An Affectionate Farewell” from Acts 20 preached by Wes Thompson. So, as we explore God’s action in and through the church, let us open our ears and our hearts to hear from God through His Word and rejoice in Him! We will start the gathering by singing a song called “Before the Throne of God Above”.
Song: “Before the Throne of God Above”

L: Come, all who thirst—come to the water! You who long for the water of life—come and drink! Dip your soul in the river of God’s goodness; quench your thirst at God’s well of grace. For God is here among us, offering living water to all who would drink! Let’s worship God together!
– based on Exodus 17: 1-7

Song: “Come Ye Sinners”

L: Lord, Jesus, help us to believe with our whole lives that apart from You we can do nothing.
C: We struggle with fear and anxiety when trials come. We battle sin and unbelief and often give in to temptation.
L: Show us daily that we can bring everything to You.
C: In our confession of sins, remind us of Your grace and mercy.
L: Help us to believe in the truth of Your work on our behalf, Your death and sacrifice on the cross for our sins, giving us life and righteousness.
C: Cause us to believe in You and help us to live lives that are dependent upon You, knowing that we find our hope and satisfaction only in You. Amen.
—Based on a prayer from Sojourn Church

Song: “In The Shadow of the Glorious Cross”

Our sermon was preached by Wes Thompson, entitled “An Affectionate Farewell”, from Acts 20.

Song: “All The Poor and Powerless”

Song: “Grace Alone”

L: Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

C: We rejoice that You have died, have risen, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

L: With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

C: We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

C: Father, help us to be a church that builds our lives upon Your promises and truths and that finds our identity in the death and resurrection of Christ. Through the power of Your Holy Spirit and by Your perfect grace transform us into a people that is characterized by humility, gentleness, patience, and an eager willingness to bear with one another in love.
—Based on Colossians 2:13-15 and Ephesians 4:1-3

Song: “Doxology”

Go into this week, held together by the love of God, clothed with the nature of Jesus the Christ, reinforced by the strength of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you. (from Philippians 3:6-11)
