Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday September 6th, 2015
This week we are continuing through the book of Acts, the early history of the church. Brad Snyder will be preaching a sermon called “How Did We Get Here” based on Acts 27-28. As we learn through this story of Paul and the early church, let us remember the meaning behind the authors words and let the Holy Spirit guide us in correct understanding.
L: God of salvation, in Christ You have done great things—our hearts are filled with joy. By Your power You lifted us out of the wasteland of sin and brought us with joy and peace into Your kingdom. Salvation is Your gift to us.
C: But we confess that often we try to replace Your gift with our own efforts. We try to complete what is already perfect; we try to add to what is already full; we try to earn what we already have. Forgive us for our foolishness. May Your Spirit convict us of our sin and cause us to rest in the redeeming work of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, through whom we have been given new life. Amen.
Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:
- “Our Great God” – a song of praise, glorifying the God who is worthy of praise from all creatures.
- “It Is Well” – an old hymn that calls us to rest in the peace and assurance of Christ despite our circumstance.
- “Be Thou My Vision” – a call to make God the guiding vision in our lives, because He knows better than we ever do.
Here is a link to a Spotify playlist. This playlist is comprised of songs being played at all four congregations this weekend, so you may not hear them all at your congregation. Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
