Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday September 6th, 2015
This week we are continuing through the book of Acts, the early history of the church. Wes Thompson will be preaching a sermon called “The Trials of Paul” based on Acts 21-26. As we learn through this story of Paul and the early church, let us remember the meaning behind the authors words and let the Holy Spirit guide us in correct understanding.
L: God of salvation, in Christ You have done great things—our hearts are filled with joy. By Your power You lifted us out of the wasteland of sin and brought us with joy and peace into Your kingdom. Salvation is Your gift to us.
C: But we confess that often we try to replace Your gift with our own efforts. We try to complete what is already perfect; we try to add to what is already full; we try to earn what we already have. Forgive us for our foolishness. May Your Spirit convict us of our sin and cause us to rest in the redeeming work of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, through whom we have been given new life. Amen.
Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:
- “Our Great God” – a song of praise, glorifying the God who is worthy of praise from all creatures.
- “Come Thou Fount” – an old hymn that calls us to praise and worship the Father for the blessings of each day.
- “Fix My Eyes” – A song for the moments when all seems lost, reminding us that He went through the worst for us and will go through the worst in our lives with us.
Here is a link to a Spotify playlist. This playlist is comprised of songs being played at all four congregations this weekend, so you may not hear them all at your congregation. Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
