“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.” Galatians 4:4-7
No longer a slave but His child; not only His child but an heir! What better news is there for us who have been rescued through Christ’s death and resurrection? We all were orphans with no hope, dead in our sins, and separated from our Father. God not only saved us and promised eternal life to those who believe in Christ, but we are now His beloved children. He adopted us as His sons and daughters, and loves us with a mighty, everlasting, Fatherly love. 1 John 3:1 declares, “See what kind of love the Father has given us that we should be called children of God.”
Therefore this extravagant love of our Father beckons us to love and serve others. God deeply cares for and treasures the orphans and hurting children in our world, for He calls Himself the “father of the fatherless” (Psalm 68:6) and “their strong Redeemer” (Proverbs 23:11). As adopted sons and daughters of the King, we are called to value and care for vulnerable children, and this care isn’t just a “special calling” for a select few, but instead is an incredible opportunity to demonstrate the Gospel for all to see. Let’s show the world what the love of God looks like through our care for orphaned and vulnerable children!
