Like most years, 2014 is ending too quickly. Thankfully, God’s vision and hope for us is not bound by a calendar and we expect to see him continue His work in our church family over the years. But as we reflect on 2014 I am reminded of David’s prayer in Psalm 145 –
I will extol you, my God and King,
and bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
and praise your name forever and ever.
David’s tone of worship is not necessarily because of a great year of great things going on in his life but it’s a standing conviction that God is King, greatly to be praised, always!
Veritas does have a lot of tangible and intangible things to point to and say “great is the LORD.” Baptisms, new community groups and new congregations—to that we say “every day I will bless you!” Deeper discipleship to clarity of mission—to that we say “his greatness is unsearchable!” Financial provision to new buildings—to that we say “praise your name forever and ever!” But even if 2014 was a year of failed mission and broken vision we still lift our eyes to declare “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised!”
I hope that every year when we reflect on all that has happened within our church that we would be a people who are quick to bless God before we ask him to bless us. That we would know that Jesus’ promises claim us before we claim his promises. That we would rejoice that Jesus Christ is our rock and salvation through storms and abundance. His Greatness is Unsearchable!
