Ash Wednesday is not just a holiday. It is a wake up call. It confronts us with a stark reminder of our mortality and our sinfulness. To heed this call is not to despair, but to respond with repentance and to trust a merciful God. It’s a call to depend on and rest in the work of Christ. On Ash Wednesday, we begin the 40 day season of Lent that leads to Easter, where we celebrate God’s victory over death and the promise of life. The journey begins with us facing our sin as we spend an evening in prayerful repentance and confession and hope-filled worship.
