Discussion Questions
  1. What is generosity or what does it mean to be generous? How is it more about trust in God against anxiety than about having or not having money and possessions?
  2. Proverbs 28:25 can be translated to speak of either greed or arrogance. How are these connected? What about pride keeps us from generosity? How can we grow in the humility that leads to generosity?
  3. Much about trust in God as a good and wise Father is difficult for us with many of the hurts that we have experienced in our lives. How do the wounds we carry keep us from trust and generosity? The Gospel exists to bring healing. Take time some time in the coming weeks with members of your community that you know and trust deeply to talk about those hurts that you may be carrying on your heart and pray that the Spirit would bring healing to know and trust God despite and through the poor representations that have hurt us in this world.
  4. One of Pastor Geoff’s closing points was that we could give away everything that we have and still not be generous. How is this possible? Take some time to examine your heart personally and with your community to see where your heart is inclined either to generosity or to something less. (E.g. If you feel convicted after this sermon to give more money to the church or some other noble cause, why is that? Are you being selfish in your generosity or are you potentially trying to earn what has already been given?)
