Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – April 13th, 2014

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and spiritual song of the Veritas worship gathering on April 13th, 2014.

::: This week we celebrated Palm Sunday, which brings attention to Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the beginning of Holy Week. :::

Song: “Mighty God” by Deitrick Haddon

Reading: Call to Worship

L: So the disciples brought the colt to Jesus and threw their garments over it for him to ride on. As he rode along on his way into Jerusalem, a large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They spread out their garments on the road ahead of him and began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. “Hosanna, Praise God! Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!” But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, “Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!” Jesus replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”
– Based on Luke 19:35-40 (NLT) and John 12:12-14 (NLT)

L: Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

C: Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
— Philippians 2:6-11

Song: “King of Glory” by  Jesse Reeves and Chris Tomlin

Reading: Confession/Assurance

L: O Lord, today we remember Your entrance into the rebellious city of Jerusalem. The very crowds that praised You would soon turn and demand Your death. We confess that our wills are as rebellious as the crowd’s. Our faith is often more show than substance, our worship of You is often based more on our feelings than Your glory. Our hearts seek our own comfort and lead us to sin instead of following and trusting You, our Savior, our Messiah.

C: Have mercy on us, O God. Help us to give to You all that we are and all that we have, trusting You to lead us to repentance, to forgive what is sinful, to heal what is broken, and to mold and shape us for Your glory. We confess our need for You, our Savior, and trust in the work You accomplished for us on the Cross. It’s in Your holy name that we pray. Amen.

Song: “Shine Into Our Night” by Joel Sczebel

Song: “Bless The Lord (Son of Man)” by The Tribbett

Reading: Commitment

L: God and Father of Jesus, You have sent Your Son to be our Savior: our light in the midst of darkness, our rescue from the raging floods, our hope in the face of threats, our peace amid turmoil.
C: In Your Word we have seen Jesus and know that Your promises are true. Send us forth from this gathering with a renewed awakening to the Glory of Christ and cause us to trust and worship Him with all that we do, that we may live for Your glory. This we ask in the name of Jesus, the Lord. Amen.

Song: “O Fount Of Love” by Matt Boswell and Matt Papa

Benediction:

Hear this benediction as we go:

L: The Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one… As you go, may the Holy Spirit direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s glory. Peace be with you.
C: And also with you.
