Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – April 13th, 2014

SERMON

The sermon this week will be taken from Genesis 6:1-7. This verse expresses some difficult sentiment that could potentially be difficult to swallow. It tells us that “the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth” and quite frankly that is a terrifying thing to think about. What led God to now look at what he once claimed was “very good” and say that it has caused grief in his heart? Join us as we discuss this difficult subject and look at the redemptive plan that God set in place to bring healing and salvation to us.

LITURGY

Our liturgy of confession this week is based on the events of Palm Sunday. This is the week before Easter where Jesus made his triumphant entrance into the city of Jerusalem. Its easy to be appalled by how quickly the same people who ushered Jesus into the city turned against him and demanded his death, forgetting that we so often do the same thing. We so quickly praise him and thank him only to turn right around and deny his lordship in our lives when trials come. We want to encourage you to read through this and rather than separate yourselves from the story to place yourselves within it and use that time to identify sin struggles in your own heart and life.

L: O Lord, today we remember Your entrance into the rebellious city of Jerusalem. The very crowds that praised You would soon turn and demand Your death. We confess that our wills are as rebellious as the crowd’s. Our faith is often more show than substance, our worship of You is often based more on our feelings than Your glory. Our hearts seek our own comfort and lead us to sin instead of following and trusting You, our Savior, our Messiah.
C: Have mercy on us, O God. Help us to give to You all that we are and all that we have, trusting You to lead us to repentance, to forgive what is sinful, to heal what is broken, and to mold and shape us for Your glory. We confess our need for You, our Savior, and trust in the work You accomplished for us on the Cross. It’s in Your holy name that we pray. Amen.

MUSIC

Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:

  • “Revelation Song” – An anthem of praise pulling from the symbolism of Jesus as the king of kings from the book of Revelation.
  • “You Have Redeemed My Soul” – This is a song we haven’t played in a while but it is a beautiful song that speaks of the redemptive grace of Gods love and mercy.
  • “Mighty God” – a joyful song speaking on the great might of our God!

Here is a link to a Spotify playlist.

Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.

See you Sunday!
