Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – May 19th, 2013

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and spiritual song of the Veritas worship gathering on May 19th, 2013.

Below are the songs and liturgy readings from our gathering. We pray that this would encourage you and point you to the gospel as we continue in worship as a scattered community on mission.

Song: “All Creatures of Our God and King” by David Crowder, William Henry Draper, Brent Milligan, and St. Francis of Assisi

Reading: Call to Worship

L: Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Each day proclaim the good news that He saves. Declare His glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things He does.
C: Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.
L: The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens! Honor and majesty surround Him; strength and joy fill His dwelling.
C: O nations of the world, recognize the Lord, recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.
L: Give to the Lord the glory He deserves! Bring your offering and come into His presence.
C: Worship the Lord in all His holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before Him. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken.
—1 Chronicles 16:23-30

Song: “Come Thou Fount” by Robert Robinson and John Wyeth

Reading: Confession

L: Christ is our peace. He came to earth proclaiming peace to those who are far off and those who are near.
C: This proclamation has reached our ears, but we confess that it has not settled into our hearts.
L: Anxiety and fear haunt our frenzied days and our restless nights. We numb ourselves with mindless activities and shallow pleasures.
C: Forgive us, O Lord.
L: Christ is our peace. In His flesh—through His blood—He has taken those divided by hostility and made them one. Grant us now, we pray, the grace to die daily to sin and to rise daily to new life in Christ, who lives and reigns with us.
C: Christ is our peace. Open us and fill us with this peace. For Your mercy we pray. Amen.
—Based on Ephesians 2:11-22

Song: “Oh God” by Zach Bolen

Reading: Assurance

L: For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
—Luke 19:10

Song: “Bless The Lord” by Tye Tribbett

Passing of the Peace:

Our Sermon this week was from Shane Huey from Romans 8:31-39

Listen to the sermon online here.

Song: “Jesus Paid It All” by John Thomas Grape, Elvina M. Hall, and Alex Nifong

Song: “Hallelujah What A Savior” by Philip Paul Bliss

Reading: Commitment

L: What do you believe about the work of God?
C: We believe that God, who is perfectly merciful and just, sent His Son to bear the punishment of our disobedience by His most bitter death.
L: And what do you believe about the work of Jesus Christ?
C: We believe that Jesus Christ presented Himself in our name before His Father, to appease His wrath with full satisfaction by offering Himself on the cross and pouring out His precious blood for the cleansing of our sins.
L: What comfort does this give you?
C: We find all rest and comforts in His wounds and have no need to seek or invent any other means to reconcile ourselves with God than this one and only sacrifice, once made, which renders believers perfect forever.
—Based on the Belgic Confession, Articles 20-21

Song: “I Have To Believe” by Rita Springer

Benediction:

Hear this benediction as we go:
As you go, may God’s immeasurable love displayed through Christ give you all rest and peace in all of life’s circumstances. Peace be with you.

L: Peace be with you.
C: And also with you.
