Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – July 20, 2014
Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and spiritual song of the Veritas worship gathering on July 20, 2014
Judah and Tamar [GENESIS 38:1-30] GENESIS: The Gospel According to Joseph
We gather to worship God. We do this by partaking of communion together, by reading his word, by praying together, and by singing. Singing is an important part of what we do as believers. It’s an expression of the affection and gratitude we have for God and his gospel. It’s the consummation of the joy we experience from God working in us and through us. One theologian even said that “the christian faith, is a sung faith.” So join us as we sing, lifting your voices and hearts up to our Sovereign King.
Song: “Everything is Yours”
:::ADORATION:::
We have gathered to celebrate who God is and what he’s done for us in his Son. And we do this because we are forgetful. It’s easy for us as sinful and finite creatures to not be mindful of what God has done, to not be convicted by our sin, to not be encouraged by the gospel, to not be assured by the grace we’ve been given. So it is necessary for us to gather and sing, and hear, and see, and celebrate what God has done and what he is doing in our midst.
L: Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; tell of all His wondrous works!
C: Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
L: Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His presence continually!
C: Remember the wondrous works that He has done, His miracles, and the judgments He uttered.
—Psalm 105:1-5
Song: “Holy, Holy, Holy”
:::CONFESSION/ASSURANCE:::
As we get a glimpse of the holiness, the purity, the power of God, we are reminded that we are none of this things. We are reminded that we’ve sinned against him, our Creator, and that we don’t deserve his love and grace. But the good news is that he’s lavished love and grace on us through his Son, Jesus.
L: Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. But—
C: “When God our Savior revealed His kindness and love, He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.
L: He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.
C: Because of His grace He declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”
—Titus 3:3-7
Song: “Death Has Lost Its Sting”
:::PASSING OF THE PEACE:::
Now, because of Jesus, sickness and suffering and death no longer have the last say, because we have life in him. And this gives us great peace, peace that passes understanding, even in the midst of crisis
:::PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD:::
Our Sermon was from Nick Nye on GENESIS 38:1-30
:::COMMUNION:::
L: Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.
C: We rejoice that You have died, have risen, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.
L: With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.
C: We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.
Song: “Redeemer”
Song: “Our Treasure”
Song: “Come to Me”
:::COMMITMENT:::
We go encouraged and joyful because of the great rescue that Christ has accomplished
L: This is the good news that we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, and that he was raised to life on the third day,
C: We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. He is our Lord and our God.
L: We rejoice that the Spirit of God is transforming our hearts and lives through the Gospel of Jesus, as He is waking and empowering us to see our place in this world.
C: Go forth in us, Spirit of God, that we may be the unified church; as we live out the gospel in loving community, display the gospel as active servants. understand the gospel by being learners of God’s Word and proclaim the gospel as we purposefully relate to others.
L: In a world estranged from God, where millions of people face confusing choices,
C: this mission is central to our being, for we announce the one name that saves.
Song: “O Fount Of Love”
:::BENEDICTION:::
May the God of peace guard your hearts from the false and fading comforts of idols and may he lead you on to find true satisfaction in the blessings that only He can provide. Go now in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.
