Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – January 18th, 2015

SERMON

This week we are continuing our Fruit of the Spirit series! This Sunday we are focusing on Patience, Kindness, and Goodness. The sermon text for this series is Galatians 5:22-23.  As it says in Galatians 5:25-26, “We live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.” So when we live by the Spirit we will produce the correct fruit.

LITURGY

L: Almighty God, You have called us to be the church, building one another up and reflecting Christ to a lonely and confused world. But we confess that we are more apathetic than active, more callous than compassionate, more rebellious than obedient, more legalistic than loving.

C: Gracious Lord, have mercy upon us and forgive our sins. Remove everything in our hearts that prevents us from loving each other and displaying you to a broken world. Awaken our hearts to the gift of your Spirit. By His power, may we make you known in our homes, neighborhoods, and places of work. This we pray in Jesus’ powerful name. Amen.

MUSIC

Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:

  • “Made Alive – Citizens & Saints” – An upbeat anthem that allows us to declare the new life that we have through and in Christ
  • “Entrance – Liz Vice” – A beautiful song speaking of the salvation work that Christ has completed for us
  • “Be Thou My Vision” – A song that pleads for God to be  our everything- to be our delight and our one true satisfaction

Here is a link to a Spotify playlist. Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
