Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – February 8th, 2015

SERMON

This week we continuing through studying the book of Acts! This Sunday’s message is titled “The Day of Pentecost”. The sermon text for this series is Acts 2:1-41. Acts shows us the start of the Christian church and this Sunday we are going to focus on the day of pentecost. Here is where the Holy Spirit came upon his first followers.  As we continue through this informative book lets open our ears and our hearts to hear from God through His Word.

LITURGY

L: Almighty God, You have called us to be the church, to continue the mission of Jesus Christ to our lost and confused world. Yet we acknowledge we are more apathetic than active, isolated than involved, callous than compassionate, obstinate than obedient, legalistic than loving.
C: Gracious Lord, have mercy upon us and forgive our sins. Remove the obstacles which prevent us from loving you and loving our neighbors. By Your Holy Spirit, continue to make us more like Your Son, Jesus, that in all things we would rest in and believe in Him as our Savior. This we pray in Jesus’ powerful name. Amen.

MUSIC

Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:

  • “All Creatures” –  a hymn written by St. Francis of Assisi calling all of creation to worship the Lord
  • “Sovereign God” – A  beautiful song by Maurette Brown Clark about the sheer magnificence and sovereignty of God
  • “In Christ Alone” – A song that attests to the fact that there is in no other thing but Christ that we can find security and salvation.

Here is a link to a Spotify playlist. Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
