Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – Sunday November 22, 2015

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and readings of the Veritas worship gathering on November 22nd, 2015

This week we continued our sermon series, Remembering our Redemption, with a sermon entitled “Glory” from Revelation 21:1-4 preached by Wes Thompson. So, as we relive the story of redemption seen throughout Scripture, let us open our ears and our hearts to hear from God through His Word and rejoice in Him! We will start the gathering by singing a song called “Made Alive”.

Song: “Made Alive”

L: Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, Give thanks to the God of gods, Give thanks to the Lord of lords,
C: for his steadfast love endures forever;

L: Give thanks to him who alone does great wonders, to him who by understanding made the heavens, to him who spread out the earth above the waters,
C: for his steadfast love endures forever;

L: Give thanks to him who made the great lights, the sun to rule over the day, the moon and stars to rule over the night,
C: for his steadfast love endures forever;

L: Give thanks to the God of heaven and earth,
C: for his steadfast love endures forever.
– Based on Psalm 136:1-9, 26

Song: “Jesus!”

Together we confess:

“I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father,
He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.”

Extemporaneous Prayer

Song: “Be Thou My Vision”

Our sermon was preached by Wes Thompson, entitled “Glory”, from Revelation 21:1-4.

L: In the night in which he was betrayed, Our lord Jesus took bread, He gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

L: Again, after supper, He took the cup, gave thanks,  and gave it for all to drink, saying; this cup is The new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Silent Reflection – to prepare our hearts to come to the Lords table

L: Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

C: We rejoice that You have died, have risen, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

L: With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

C: We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: “Nothing but the Blood”

Song: “Rock of Ages”

L: People of God – remember your redemption! For this light momentary suffering is renewing us and preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen on this earth, which are fading, but to the things that are unseen which are eternal. For we know that God, the author of our redemption and salvation, will also raise us also with Jesus, whom he raised from the dead, and bring us into his glorious presence.
Here, there will be a new heaven, a new earth and a new city, where the river of life flows, where the tree of life bears fruit in every season and we will be reborn, restored, and renewed!

C: As citizens of heaven, this is our hope! And we are eagerly waiting for our Savior to return when we will be in his glorious presence forever! All Glory be to God our Father forever and ever. Amen!

– based on 2 Corinthians 4:14-18, Revelation 21:1-6, and Philippians 3:20-21

Song: “10,000 Reasons”

Go in grace and peace from God, who is and who was and who is to come, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth, and the Holy Spirit who guides us till his return. Peace be with you
