All human life is created in God’s image with unimaginable worth and value. In similar ways we did in 2020 when we had our week of prayer for racial unity, we’re conducting a week of prayer to celebrate the sanctity of human life. We will reflect on the injustice of abortion, lament, explore its implications on minority communities, cry out to God for cultural change, and seek Jesus in repentance to receive His grace.

We want you to join us in setting aside time each day that week to pray and fast and learn. Every day, you’ll receive an email with a video and a prayer guide for that day. Or, you can scroll to the bottom of this page to view those videos now.

Day 1: Made in the Image of God
Day 2: Lament
Day 3: Racial Implications
Day 4: Cultural and Policy Change
Day 5: Repentance and Grace

Plan ahead to set aside 20-30 minutes each day to listen to the videos, to learn and pray alongside our church family. All for the glory of Jesus – that the world would know and be transformed by His restoring grace and salvation! Let us come before Him together in prayer! There is hope at the foot of the cross for those of us who acknowledge and confess that we’ve had a part in devaluing, disregarding, and even destroying human life. At the cross and his empty tomb we celebrate that Jesus has conquered death and has offered us new life. He has empowered us to live as ambassadors in this new world.

We live in a world where human life is often considered cheap. We see human life treated with disdain when it’s undesired or inconvenient, but Scripture tells us that human beings were created with unimaginable worth, to be the crown of creation, because Human Life alone was created in the image of God.

We do not make our own lives valuable; God, the author of life, gave us value when He made us in His image. Our society has pursued socially acceptable ways of redefining the God-given value of life. The desires of the parents, social acceptance, and usefulness often drive the decision to terminate life instead of looking to the One who defines life. Watch this video as we lament the willful destruction of human life.

Since 1973 and the passage of Roe v. Wade, there have been 15.5 million abortions of African American babies alone. So in absolute numbers, the killing of 15.5 million African American babies in the womb has now surpassed the total number of lives we believe to have been lost in the transatlantic slave trade. One of the most deeply hidden back stories in America today is the strategic and systematic racial genocide. Watch this video to learn more about the racial implications of abortion.

When we consider all that we’ve learned about abortion, it’s easy to become frustrated and angry. We must take our instruction from scripture, and strive to be holy, set apart from the culture, and pray for hearts to be moved to change.
Watch this video to learn more and to pray with us as we ask God to move mightily in our nation and culture, to bring an end to the willful destruction of human life.

As followers of Jesus, there are many action steps that we can take from this week to demonstrate to a watching world the beautiful reality of God’s kingdom that values and protects all human life. But at Veritas we are convinced that the place we all must begin is at the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ. Watch this video to learn more about how the great hope we find in God’s word.
