Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – June 2nd, 2013
::SERMON::
This weeks sermon text comes from Revelation 2: 8-11 . Come check out what Jesus has to say to the church in Smyrna in response to the way that they are living out their calling as followers of Christ. Do we understand what it looks like to follow Christ through the good and the bad? Do we really trust that what God has promised for us is far better then our current circumstances? Join us and be encouraged as we see Jesus encourage his church.
::LITURGY::
Our “Call to Worship” this week is based out of three different scripture texts (Psalm 105:1-2; Romans 5:5; Revelation 4:8). We pray that you would reflect on this liturgy and consider what it means for you that even your worship of God would be impossible if it were not for His spirit being poured out in us. If we fully grasped this concept then how would it mold our response to God and all that he has given us through the gospel?
L: The love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us;
C: We dwell in Him and He in us.
L: Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him, and speak of all His marvelous works.
C: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty, who was and is and is to come!
::MUSIC::
Check out some of the songs we will be singing together this week:
– “Made Alive”, an upbeat anthem that allows us to declare the new life that we have through and in Christ.
– “I Surrender All”, a song that speaks of a right response upon hearing and being changed by the gospel.
– “Alas And Did My Savior Bleed”, a hymn that pretty much explicitly presents the main themes of the gospel- that we are sinners saved by the atoning work of Christ.
Here is a link to a Spotify playlist.
Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.
See you Sunday!
