Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – October 13th, 2013

SERMON

The sermon text this week is from Romans 13:1-7. This section of Romans speaks on the issue of submitting to authority.  The tension between earthly kingdoms and the kingdom of heaven is very real.  We are supposed to live among the world around us but we are to do it remembering that our true home is in heaven. The main source of authority as Christians is from God and God alone yet he has commanded us to obey the earthly authorities around us.  However, this is not a teaching which is meant to lead to legalism and works based salvation.  Join us this sunday as we look at this issue through the lens of the Gospel of  Jesus Christ!

LITURGY

L: The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The LORD is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made. All your works praise You, LORD; Your faithful people praise You. They tell of the glory of Your kingdom and speak of Your might, so that all people may know of Your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of Your kingdom.

C: The LORD is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He does. The LORD upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.
—Psalm 145:8-14

This call to worship  declares to us exactly why we are able to worship God.  We worship God because of his characteristics- not because of our emotions or interpretations of Him. He is always deserving of our worship because of his trustworthy and faithful nature. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with the temptation to direct or worship towards fleeting and failing things God calls us back to him through his grace and love. Spend some time reflecting on this truth and letting it sink deep into your souls and then join us as we gather as one united body to worship our Father in heaven.

MUSIC

Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:

  • “I Am Living In A Land Of Death” – A song of both confession and rejoicing.  In the midst of the darkness and death around us we can rejoice in the life given to us through Jesus Christ.
  • “Here Is Love” – A great reminder of of God’s extravagant love for us!
  • “Grace Alone” – This song speaks of the fact that it is only by grace that we are saved and redeemed

Here is a link to a Spotify playlist.

Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.

See you Sunday!
