Veritas Gathered: Liturgy Recap – November 10th, 2013

Welcome to the recap of the songs, hymns and spiritual song of the Veritas worship gathering on November 10th, 2013.

Song: “Mighty Fortress” by Martin Luther/ Adapted and rewritten by Sovereign Grace Music

Reading: Call to Worship

L: Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.

C: Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.
(Psalm 86:1-13 ESV)

Song: “All Creatures of Our God and King” by Francis of Assisi

Reading: Confession

L: Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your steadfast love; according to Your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight.
C: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
—From Psalm 51

Song: ” White As Snow” Jon Foreman

Reading: Passing of the Peace/Assurance

C: You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
—Colossians 2:13-14

Our Sermon this week was from Nick Nye from Romans 15:1-6

Song: “Oh Love That Will Not Let Me Go” by George Matheson and Arr: Ascend the Hill

::: BABY DEDICATIONS :::
This week at Veritas we had the honor and blessing to dedicate 34 children. We ask the parents of these children to vow to raise their children according to the gospel by loving and teaching them and then we also ask the church as a whole to commit to this as well. Our desire is that these children would be molded by the gospel through the actions and efforts of Veritas as a whole in order to grow into gospel loving and gospel molded adults!

L:What we have heard and know, what our fathers have told us— We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed the law in Israel, which He commanded the fathers to teach to their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children not yet born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their hope in God and would not forget his works but keep his commandments.
—Psalm 78:1-7

[Call to parents]
Parents, will you commit to trust God’s promises made to you and your children in His Word?
Will you commit to seek God, and seek gospel change in the way you live and parent your children?
Will you commit to discipline your children and show them grace?
Will you commit to teach God’s Word to them and live out the gospel in your home?
Will you commit to pray for them and teach them to pray?
Will you commit to partner with this church community, seek their help and accountability, and lead your children to do the same?

[Call to Church]
Veritas, will you commit to seek God and seek gospel change in the way you live before these children?
Will you commit to pray for these children—that they will grow to love Jesus and trust in Him?
Will you commit to teach them the gospel through both your words and your example?
Will you commit to partner with these parents—holding them accountable and confronting their sin?
Will you commit to pray for them and encourage them as they face the trials of parenting?
Will you commit to serving and loving these parents and children through practical ways as a demonstration of the Gospel?

[Corporate Response]
C: With joy and thanksgiving, As Christ’s church, With God’s help, We promise to love, encourage, serve and support you As you follow Christ and train your children in the faith.

Hear this benediction as we go:

L: May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Go in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you.
C: And also with you.
