Veritas Gathered: Preparing for Sunday – November 10th, 2013

SERMON

We are looking at Romans 15:1-6 this week at Veritas. Paul continues to discuss the issues of our strengths and weaknesses before God. Just as he did in previous chapters, Paul contrasts these against the person of Christ. The past few weeks we have considered things that we should be mindful of NOT doing. This week we will look at what it means for us to follow and apply the example of Christ. Often this is an intimidating and defeating issue but partnering this with a gospel of grace gives us nothing but hope and allows us to persevere. Join us as we celebrate and worship Christ in light of his being the perfect example for his people.

LITURGY

C: You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.
—Colossians 2:13-14

This reading from Colossians is what we will be collectively reflecting on as we move from our time of confession to a time of assurance and passing of peace. The truth from this piece of scripture informs us of exactly why we can come before the Father and confess our sins. This is a central and core believe to Christians and we will joyfully celebrate this together on sunday!

MUSIC

Check out this list of some of the songs we will be singing together this week:

  • “Mighty Fortress” – An anthem of praise for our mighty and sovereign Lord!
  • “White As Snow” – An honest song of confession.
  • “All I Have Is Yours” – A song reminding us of our need to lay all that we have before the Lord.

Here is a link to a Spotify playlist.

Even though our arrangements might be slightly different, listen through these songs and see the great truths that they speak about our God and then come prepared to sing them out loudly and joyfully as a gathered church.

See you Sunday!
