Praying with Help [Scripture]
We want to be a people who can soak up the Scriptures. As we meditate on Scripture, it’s not just about getting smarter, it’s about looking for God himself. We’re not just observing truth, we’re allowing the truth to set us free.
Praying with Help [Spirit]
After returning to his disciples from a time of prayer, Jesus finds them sleeping and says, “The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Our Christian lives are marked by weakness, but the Spirit shoulders the work of our prayers.
Learning to Ask Your Father
What do we pray? How do we pray? In Matthew 6, Jesus is with his disciples, and He says, “Pray then like this.” The Lord’s Prayer is a communal, intimate cry for God’s kingdom to fully form on earth. Nick Nye walks through each line of the Lord’s Prayer, pointing out our desperation for deliverance and our need to be with God.
Community of Grace
When Jesus saves us, he saves us into the church, the community of grace. There are a lot of barriers that keep us from experiencing the type of community we’re called to be, but the work of Christ purchased the identity and reality of being God’s family.
Application IN
This past Sunday, we looked at how we’re called to apply the gospel in each sphere of our life—in our homes, work, culture, and in the church. Ultimately, though there are many barriers that keep us from living this out, our call to is glorify God in everything that we do because everything is under his domain as the sovereign King.
Rhythms AS
As God’s people, he’s given us identities as worshipers, community, servants, learners, and missionaries. He also calls us to live out these identities in the rhythms of everyday life. Ultimately, we can see each of these rhythms perfectly displayed in Jesus, so we look to him to empower us and work through us.
Vision FOR
The Scriptures lay out for us a wholistic vision for our lives as followers of Jesus. While we often can attempt to live out this call in our own strength, it’s important that we see the gospel as the means and the end of this vision. This vision is a call to our formation, obedience to the great commission, and to do all that we do for God’s glory.
Conviction OF
What is the gospel? Is it Jesus work on the cross? Is it the declaration of his kingdom come? Is it God graciously working in us? These are all ways of talking about the same gospel. Often, it’s easy for us to come to an intellectual understanding and affirmation of the gospel, but it still not be our deepest conviction. Through the Holy Spirit’s help, we can be a gospel convicted people—controlled and compelled by the gospel, rather than merely affirming it.
Stories Of Grace
God is continually working in and through Veritas to bear fruit here in our city, and across the world. This past Sunday, we wanted to reflect and be thankful that God is at work. HERE’S A SHORT VIDEO OF ONE OF THE STORIES WE SHARED: Stories of Grace – Austin Hill & Stowe Mission from Veritas Community Church on Vimeo.
The Story Of Grace and Forgiveness
The last sermon of our series in Genesis, the death of Jacob and the events surrounding his death in the life of Joseph. Joseph is confronted by his fearful brothers and again, shows them forgiveness rooted in faith in the sovereignty of God.
